[Mise à jour le 20 juillet 2022 à 22h16] On Wednesday July 20, 2022, a 22-year-old man killed five members of the same family, in Dover, Ain. The man, who was then killed by the GIGN, would be the son of the father of the family, from a first union and did not live with the family. In a press release, taken up by France Info, the public prosecutor, Christophe Rode, announces that the young man suffered from psychiatric disorders. The author of the fivefold murder did not respond to attempts to contact the gendarmerie. He had taken refuge in a room with a saber and a rifle, according to the same press release. The man pointed his weapons in the direction of the GIGN, which prompted the gendarmes to open fire.
Five people killed in Dover
Tuesday July 19, in the early evening, a man took refuge in a house in the town of Douvres, in Ain, 60km northeast of Lyon. He then took hostage at least five other people who were also present in the home. The gendarmes are then alerted in the early evening by a phone call. It is a man in his twenties, who indicates that he has just killed five people. Christophe Rode, public prosecutor, specifies that more than 100 gendarmes and investigators are mobilized.
The hostage-taking lasted all night, as well as all morning. The GIGN was then sent to the site at the start of the day, around 7 a.m., according to information collected by Le Figaro, while shots were heard during the morning, according to witnesses quoted by local newspapers. After trying to conduct negotiations – in vain – the GIGN then stormed at midday, killing the last living member present in the home, the alleged perpetrator. When they entered the house, the members of the GIGN discovered the man locked in the bathroom with a katana, a Japanese sword. After several warnings, and while the man pointed his weapons in the direction of the gendarmes, the GIGN was forced to open fire, specifies the public prosecutor, Christophe Rode, in his press release.
