It is a breakthrough in an acrobatic field. Airbus took advantage of the Farnborough air show to announce a technological advance which could eventually give it a competitive advantage over its competitor Boeing in the field of military aviation.
“The A330 MRTT tanker aircraft has become the first tanker in the world to obtain certification for automatic in-flight refueling”, announces Jean Brice Dumont, Vice President of Military Aviation at Airbus, stressing that this first was performed with the Singapore Air Force. Certified by Spain, this capability is part of the “Smart MRTT” project developed by Airbus, which aims for full automation of in-flight refueling – for planes, helicopters, fighter jets and one day, for drones .
