Learning the lessons of Covid to better prepare the world for future pandemics is the subject of many discussions, the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Associations (IFPMA) joins in the reflection. The IFPMA, which brings together 38 major laboratories, unveils on Tuesday a public proposal to the G7 and the G20, called the “Berlin declaration”, which promises to guarantee fairer access to medicines.
Vaccines, treatments, diagnostics… to guarantee them to low-income countries during future pandemics, “we are ready to reserve an allocation of production time for these populations”, announces the IFPMA. It remains to be able to administer the treatments delivered. For this, the G7, G20 and multilateral organizations must strengthen “national health systems, financing mechanisms and absorption capacity”, underlines the IFPMA, recalling that there is global overproduction of Covid vaccines. and yet low vaccination rates in Africa.
