Passing through the show jimmy kimmel in Los Angeles, Quentin Tarantino was asked by Dana Carvey to quote a film which made him jealous and which he would have dreamed of directing.
The director of Once Upon A Time In Hollywood and pulp Fiction answers without hesitation:Battle Royale“before specifying”it’s the film that inspired Hunger Games.. well rather the film that Hunger Games literally pumped“.
Tarantino confides that part of Kill Bill is directly inspired by Battle Royale directed by Kinji Fukasaku (2000). He had also asked the actress Chiaki Kuriyama to participate in Kill Bill: Volume 1 as the sadistic Gogo Yubari.
The Story of Battle Royale: In the near future, 3rd grade class B students of Shiroiwa middle school have been brought to a deserted island by a mysterious army. An adult suddenly appears in front of them: their former teacher Kitano. He announces to them that they are going to take part in a game of massacre whose rule consists in killing each other. Only the last of the survivors will be able to return to their home.
In 2009, Quentin Tarantino had already declared that Battle Royale was his favorite film.
The Video Archives was the name of the VHS rental and sale store in Manhattan Beach, California that the duo worked for in the 80s.
