This Wednesday morning, after the Council of Ministers, Olivier Véran spoke about the fires in Gironde and the question of preventive measures. “We will talk again about the particular situation of the Gironde, with the function of pruning which consists of clearing trees, preventing the trees from sticking to each other to avoid flashing fires. There, there was a kind of particularism local, based on a text which dated from the 15th century, and which means that the pruning had not been done in good conditions”.
A statement that sparked criticism from ecologist Cécile Duflot who, referring to the Landiras fire, recalled that it was a planted and maintained forest, not pruned.
