The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp will form a sulphurous couple in “The Idol”, a new HBO series co-created by Sam Levinson (“Euphoria”). Check out the teaser above.
The Idol : after Euphoria
We didn’t have expected Euphoria to notice the work of Sam Levinson (Another Happy Day, Assassination Nation). However, it is probably with the HBO series that the director and creator really established himself. Since then, we feel more free to develop his projects. Proposing in 2021 on Netflix Malcolm & Mary. He is also behind an upcoming HBO series: The Idol. A show of which he shares the position of creator with The Weeknd and Reza Fahimi.
The American channel has unveiled a first teaser for this upcoming program. Even if the main characters will not be teenagers, the atmosphere ofEuphoria is still felt on this dynamic and rhythmic video (to discover in one of the article).

The Idol will follow a pop singer who meets a strange Los Angeles club owner. The two start a relationship. However, man is also the leader of a secret cult. As we can see in these images, we are promised an atmosphere “sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll”, with parties in clubs or huge mansions, and probably orgies. In short, the Hollywood fantasy that could turn into a nightmare. Everything seems to be filmed like a clip, like what we saw in Euphoria.
On the casting side, while The Weeknd got the role of the enigmatic owner, it’s Lily Rose Depp who appears as a pop singer. The chemistry between the two performers is already felt in these images. HBO could again attract viewers with this enticing program. Hopefully the story of The Idol will be really relevant with deep characters (like Euphoria) and that it will not only be shocking images.
To be sure, you will have to wait a bit. The series will air soon on HBO Max (no specific date). In France, OCS will offer The Idol to its subscribers.
