Asked about his character Ken in the long-awaited “Barbie”, Ryan Gosling slipped in a definition that was intriguing to say the least… Enough to feed a little more impatience around this enigmatic project.
From CIA assassin to doll
In an interview given to EntertainmentTonightthen on promotion for The Gray ManRyan Gosling had a few words to say about the highly anticipated Barbie by Greta Gerwig, in which he plays Ken, alongside Margot Robbie in the title role. Expected in France on July 19, 2023, this Barbie is a nice puzzle. We know its cast, a top-notch ensemble, we know there’s dancing and rollerblading, but beyond that, we swim in the most perfect ignorance.
Fortunately, the phlegmatic and finally back Ryan Gosling came out of silence to talk about his character. And, out of the silence, it is already an event in itself for the actor of Drive, Only God Forgivesor first-manhaving made a specialty of saying as little as possible to convey the most. But back to our famous dolls. Asked about his role in Greta Gerwig’s film, Eva Mendes’ companion said:
I think Ken’s life is harder than the Gray Man’s. Ken has no money, no job, no car, he has no house. He’s going through some tough stuff.
Seen what his character endures in the film of the Russo brothers, to find out July 22, 2022 on Netflix, if we take Ryan Gosling at his word, he just established the portrait of Ken in his “homeless” versionnever before seen in toy stores or in the crowd of animation productions Barbie aimed at young audiences (you know, those things with very, very low-cost graphics…).
A toy in the real world
The actor does not stop there, and cleverly suggests that the surprise will be great. All in expert wooden language, but who would dare reproach Ryan Gosling for anything? (apart from the toy giant Mattel, ready to ruin it and then wipe it off the face of the earth in case it reveals too much, editor’s note).
It’s not what you think, unless it’s what you think… Maybe you know what it is, but I don’t think it’s what you think. Wait, what exactly are we talking about?
Holy Ryan! He will have said just enough so that we hardly understand anything, and cover his back. But on closer inspection, the fact that Ken is destitute fuels the rumor that both figures could be toys somehow catapulted into the real world. And so would be there if not for their dream life, including luxury cars, villas and ponies. With this in mind, the famous photographed roller-skating race could have started in their world of toys, and by who knows what witchcraft, continue and end in the real world…
