The American channel HBO has just released a new trailer for the series “House of The Dragon”, which is scheduled to launch on August 21. Images that confirm the enormous ambition of this spin-off of “Game of Thrones”.
A war of succession. The new trailer for “House of The Dragon”, published by the American channel HBO, confirms the enormous ambition of the series piloted by showrunners Miguel Sapochnik and Ryan Condal. And the colossal means that have been put to work to make it the worthy successor to “Game of Thrones”. Viewers impatient to find themselves the intrigues, the betrayals, the battles, and the dragons, will be served.
The story takes place 200 years before the events of the original series, during the reign of Viserys I Targaryen. The latter inherited the crown following his grandfather, Jaeherys 1st. Important detail: he was designated as an heir at the Grand Council of Harrenhal before all the lords of the Seven Kingdoms. Among the decisions made that day, it is also decided that no woman will be able to settle on the throne of the kingdom of Westeros.
However, when Viserys I Targaryen finds himself in a position to name his successor to the throne, the sovereign only has one daughter in his line, Princess Rhaenyra, born of his union with Aemma Arryn. She will be designated as the heir. A decision accepted – at least in appearance – within the kingdom. But her second marriage to Alicent Hightower, Rhaenyra’s childhood friend, and daughter of Otto Hightower, the King’s Hand, will complicate things.
The epic tale of a war of succession
Alicent Hightower will give Viserys four children, including three sons: the eldest Aegon II, Helaena, Aemond and Daeron. Despite this, the sovereign will never change the order of succession. It was on her death that a bloody war of succession, dubbed “The Dance of the Dragons”, began between the supporters of Princess Rhanyera – who will marry her uncle Daemon Targaryen in second marriage, and of whom she will have two sons, Aegon III and Viserys II – and those of his half-brother, Aegon II. It is this story that will be at the heart of the plot of “House of the Dragon”.
After two first teasers – which we have analyzed in depth HERE and HERE – this new trailer unveiled by the HBO channel only confirms the colossal work that has been put in to make “House of the Dragon” a success. The pressure is enormous, the expectations of the fans too, but it seems that the American channel is able to pull off a feat that seemed perilous a few months ago. We are really, really, really looking forward to seeing all of this.
The launch of season 1 of “House of the Dragon” is scheduled for August 21. In France, it will be accessible on OCS (via myCANAL) with a simultaneous broadcast with the United States from 3 a.m., on the night of August 21 to 22.
