While heat waves are becoming more frequent and intense in France, some climatologists are sounding the alarm. Temperatures could approach 50 degrees over the next few decades.
Heat waves are more and more frequent in France. “We almost get used to breaking temperature records every year”explains François-Marie Bréon, climatologist, Sunday July 17. “Unfortunately, this is what climatologists had announced for around thirty years”he adds.
Should we worry in the decades to come? “It is certain that the temperature records will be broken in the future and that the heat waves will be more and more intense. The 50 degrees will not arrive by 2030. But during the next decades, there is a real risk of this happening in France. There will be dramatic events, such as those observed in Gironde (the fires that burned more than 13,000 hectares of forest in the department)“warns François-Marie Bréon.
