Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky alerted Wednesday evening to Moscow’s intentions. According to him, Russia is testing weapons intended to attack other European countries.
Nearly five months after the start of its offensive, Russia on Wednesday broadened its objectives to territories other than those in eastern Ukraine. Ukrainian head of state Volodymyr Zelensky again called on Wednesday for more weapons and new sanctions against Moscow. According to him, Russia does not intend to stop at Ukraine.
“Russia is testing in Ukraine everything that can be used against other European countries,” he said in a speech relayed in particular by the Belgian media 7 sur 7. It started with gas wars and ended with a full-scale invasion, with the terror of missiles and the burning of Ukrainian towns”.
For the safety of “European families”
The Ukrainian president added that his country was fighting for the safety of “European families”.
For his part, the head of Russian diplomacy Sergei Lavrov said that Russia’s objectives were no longer limited only to eastern Ukraine, but also concerned “other territories” and could still expand.
Part of the assault on February 24, Russia said it wanted to focus on the Donbass basin, a mining region partly controlled by pro-Russian separatists since 2014, after notably failing to take kyiv, the Ukrainian capital.
