Forgotten Fables: Wolves on the Westwind, a duo of characters
Before starting the story, you need to choose a character, you have the choice between a man or a woman.
Nedime saba Dschadir
She is a magician who comes from Tulamydes and completing his mage training. Came to the north to seek help from Runajasko, a community of mages. Unfortunately, they refused to help you, and you’re back down south with no plan.
She has eighteen points of health and thirty points of mana.
Alrik Durenald
He is a mercenary from Andergast who has spent his life fighting for others. He came north from Thorwal to protect a trader.
He has thirty health points and eighteen stamina points.
Forgotten Fables: Wolves on the Westwind, an evil is spreading through the region!
The start is alternative depending on your character, if you choose Alrik, you must defend the merchant mentioned above. If you choose Nedime, you will be attacked by bandits on a road. For the rest, you will meet Astrid, a warrior in a village not far from there. After a few missions, you realize that an evil reigns over these northern lands. An evil that threatens, in addition to attacking the region, to attack you. You will therefore be intimately linked with the enemy, because you will see him in your dreams and in certain visions.
You will live an epic in the icy lands of Thorwal, know in any case that this visual novel has decided to make you travel. Village, meadow, mountain, cave, sea as if you were in an open world.
In addition to making you discover many scenes, Wolves of the Westwind will introduce you to colorful characters. Some more welcoming than others, you will be able to form strong bonds, whether in one direction or another thanks to the choice in the dialogues. It’s about thirty unique characters that you will meet during the main plot.
You also have access to various secondary quests, count three hours to finish the game for the first time and about fifteen if you want to finish it 100%.
Sit down and make your choices!
You are here in a visual novel, don’t look for great gameplay, there is none. Here, we sit quietly in front and watch the scrolling dialogues as in The Mothmen 1966. During the three acts of the story, you will see thousands of lines of dialogue, you will have to make various choices. Scenario choices and combat choices. The screenplay choices are made during the dialogue phases, it is up to you to choose whether you are rather direct or not.
Your choices will have consequences and impact the scenario. The game from the German studio has various endings so the choices have a real impact in the scenario.
You will go through various missions, various discussions, investigations or fights. During the fights, you can either decide to play it fine by going through the dialogue or play it brutally while fighting. If you choose combat, you will have to use your abilities which will cause you to lose mana or stamina points. When you are short, you can no longer attack, if your life bar also falls to zero, it’s game over.
Forgotten Fables: Wolves on the Westwinda very present sound environment
Key asset of the game, its sound environment both in terms of sound effects and music. In terms of sound effects, each scene is accompanied by a rather successful sound effect. In the countryside, you hear the rustling of the wind in the trees and the birds singing. At banquets, you hear the guests chatting and the musicians playing their instruments. The hubbub of the market, the sound of iron clashing during battles, the crackling fire, the rushing sea, in short, you are truly immersed in the game.
On the music side, we find a medieval and Nordic atmosphere. The drums resound during the fights, the violins are strident during the moments of tension and know how to be softer when the calm moments arrive. We find in Wolves of the Westwind a soundtrack of excellent quality worthy of the greatest medieval RPGs like Skyrim, The Witcher or Kingdom Come Deliverance. The main theme of the game is really addictive, a feast for the ears!
Forgotten Fables: Wolves on the Westwinda good story in the Nordic region
Wolves of the Westwind is a very good visual novel, the story is gripping, the game immerses us in a good atmosphere, the music is of remarkable quality. The game has, a priori, no default, but you still have to look for the little beast. I would say the game is for people with a very good level in English or German. These are currently the only two languages available in the game. The less English-savvy among us will risk missing out on this wonderful video game novel.
