Jagex, the world’s leading developer and publisher of video games, today announces acquisition of Pipeworks Studios (“Pipeworks”). The studio, based in Eugene – Oregon, is recognized for its high level of innovation and has more than 200 people.
Marking her all first acquisition of an external studiothis transaction reflects Jagex’s commitment to expanding its team of international talent, as well as expanding its presence in North America.
This acquisition follows a strong period of growth for Jagex. Establishing itself as one of the leaders in the field of games close to their community, Jagex recorded five years of record-breaking games-as-a-service revenue (Game as a Service), signed a series of publishing agreements with third-party studios and saw its license Runescape reach a record number of players. In 2021, the international investment company carlyle (NASDAQ: CG) acquired Jagex to support the company’s growth strategy, including mergers and acquisitions.
Founded in 1999, Pipeworks has established a global reputation for gaming and advanced technology solutions for established and emerging licenses. The Pipeworks team of over 200 employees has signed over 125 games and is deeply involved in key franchises with partners such as EA Sports, Wizards of the Coast, Activision, Genvid, MetaTeq and many more.

The terms of this purchase were not disclosed. Aream & Co. acted as Sumo Group’s exclusive financial advisor, Allen & Overy as its legal advisor. Linklaters acted as legal counsel to Jagex.
