“It is better to depend on the fry stands of the North than on the oil of the oil monarchies. In France, we don’t have oil, but we do have frying oil. “Behind the appearance of jokes, these reflections were nevertheless seriously pronounced in the National Assembly. As part of the Purchasing Power Bill, MPs have approved the use of frying oil as fuel.
This provision was introduced into the text thanks to an amendment by the deputy Europe Ecologie-Les Verts Julien Bayou who received a favorable opinion from the government. The objective of this measure is to produce biofuel from used oils recovered in particular in restaurants.
An economical and ecological solution
According to the MP’s written arguments, 10 liters of properly reprocessed waste oil can yield 8 liters of biofuel. This rejects up to 90% less greenhouse gases than a conventional diesel. “It is illegal in France but very widespread in Europe and in our regions but in a clandestine way”, declared Julien Bayou in the hemicycle, highlighting the interest of such a fuel for the climate but also for power. of purchase.
As the “Roule ma frite” association, which campaigns for the recycling of used vegetable oils, reminds us, only diesel cars can run on these biofuels. According to them, they are much more respectful of air quality than diesel, which we know releases a lot of fine particles harmful to health during its combustion.
Moreover, still according to the same source, the reprocessing of used oils is a current challenge. Thrown back into the water, they are particularly difficult to eliminate. The introduction of local collection and reprocessing of frying oils could therefore make it possible to recover this waste, while creating local activity and jobs.
