In summer, the edges of the beach are not always the most welcoming. Between the sharp ones which hide under the sand and the jellyfish which are at the edge of the sea, the threats are multiple. In case of bites, it is possible to soothe the pain with a few simple gestures.
Vives: the solution to suffer less after a bite
The bright ones are fish that are buried in the sand at the edge of the water, and which will sting us by reaction with their dorsal ridge when we walk on them barefoot. Their sting causes a sharp pain that gradually intensifies over the next hour.
The secret to soothe a live bite: the heat. Indeed, the venom of this fish is destroyed with heat, it is thermolabile. It is then advisable to immerse your foot in very hot water or to use a hair dryer. However, be careful not to burn yourself. After a few minutes of “hot”, we go cold. To do this, put an ice cube or a cold pack in a cloth and apply it to your skin. This creates a Thermal shock effective against pain.
The sting of life is a wound. It must then be disinfected and ensured that there are no complications. Some beaches and seashores are known to be haunts for life. To avoid problems, it is better to wear plastic sandals.
Jellyfish sting: call the first aid station
If the beach on which you encountered a jellyfish is supervised, sea rescuers recommend calling the first aid station directly. Rescuers can then provide first aid. If not, it is possible to relieve the pain yourself. Start by rinsing thoroughly with seawater, without rubbing. Avoid fresh water, it may release more venom and increase pain.
It is also advisable to remove the stinging filaments stuck to the skin. To do this, take hot sand and apply it to the skin, gently scraping with a stiff cardboard. It can be a bank card or the postcard you were writing.
After removing the sand, you can rinse again with sea water. The pain should have lessened. When you get home, also remember to disinfect the wound.
