Fat gives a lot of trouble. You don’t like it, you often want to get rid of it.
You feel guilty when you see curves appear in the mirror.
However, she is not that bad. On the contrary, it is even essential for the proper functioning of the body!
Adipose tissue: a real reservoir of energy
Talking about fat is talking about adipose tissue, billions of cells that store lipids, fat. These cells act as a real fuel as for the muscles, it is an energy reservoir.
The ancestors understood this well. In the Paleolithic, energy storage was crucial. To optimize their survival, especially as winter approached, prehistoric humans ate foods high in fat.
On the animal carcasses, not a single residue remained, even the calorie-rich bone marrow was recovered.
Brain: most energy-intensive organ
The brain even needs fat. In just one day, it burns over 300 calories. It does not only fuel glucose, it also needs lipids.
In modern societies, food has become much more accessible and there is no need to store as much energy as in the Paleolithic.
The ones who really need a fat reserve are the bears. In winter, they hibernate and spend long months sleeping, without eating or drinking.
The bear will then lose at least half of its weight.
